NSATA President Denise Marshall presented the first NSATA Life Saver Award. This award is designed to honor those outside the athletic training profession who, in a time of crisis, showed exceptional courage and took swift, life-saving action. It recognizes individuals who stepped up — not because it was their job, but because it was the right thing to do.
Coach Chad Carlson and Activities Director Jay Staehr, both with Aurora Public Schools, acted without hesitation in an intense, high-pressure moment. Their immediate and effective response directly contributed to saving a life. Their actions remind us that hero’s do not always wear a uniform; sometimes they wear the title of coach, parent, colleague, or friend. Their situational awareness, and ability to collaborate were crucial.
